Terms of use
The rules for using Mestoria, written to be read in one sitting. If a line here is unclear, write to us and we will explain it.
Who we are
Mestoria is made and run by Pancake Studio LLC, a Massachusetts company, in Boston. When these terms say "we" or "Mestoria", that is who they mean. You can reach us at support@mestoria.app or on 617-701-7766.
What Mestoria is
Mestoria is a painted diary. You write or speak your day, and a painter turns it into a picture with you in it, from a few photos you give once. The pictures are made by an image model from your words and your photos. They are illustrations, not photographs, and like any painting they can miss a detail or invent one. You choose what to keep, what to repaint and what to delete.
Who may use it
- You must be 13 or older. If we learn that someone younger has an account, we delete it.
- An account is for one person. Keep your sign-in to yourself; what happens under your account is yours.
- Use Mestoria for your own diary. It is not a tool for painting other people from their photos.
Your account
Mestoria works without an account on one phone. An account, made with your email address, lets the same journal follow you between the app and this site and keeps a backup on our server. You can delete the account, the backup and your photos from inside the app at any time, with no one to ask. How your data is kept, and for how long, is in the privacy page, which is part of these terms.
What is yours
Your words, your photos and the pages painted from them are yours. You own them, and you can export them at any time, one page at a time or as a whole book. So that Mestoria can work, you give us permission to do only what the service needs: to transcribe what you speak, to send your entry and your three small photo crops to the painter, to show your pages back to you, and to keep the backup you asked for. Nothing you make is used to train a model, shown to other people, used in advertising or sold. When you delete something, that permission ends with it.
Only upload photos that are of you, and only write what you have the right to write. If a page were to include someone else, that is on you, not on Mestoria.
What is ours
The app, the site, the styles, the name Mestoria and the way the pages are made belong to Pancake Studio LLC. You may use them to keep your diary. You may not copy the app, take it apart, scrape the site, run painting by machine, resell access, or use Mestoria to build a competing service.
Things you agree not to do
- Upload photos of anyone but yourself, or of a child.
- Use Mestoria to make pictures that are unlawful, that harass or deceive anyone, or that sexualise a minor.
- Try to get around a limit, a payment or a safety rule in the app.
- Interfere with the service, other people's use of it, or our servers.
If you do, we may pause or close your account. You keep the right to export your pages first, unless the law says otherwise.
Plans, prices and the free trial
- Drift is free: one journal, unlimited writing, and one painted page every week on us.
- Daily and Studio are subscriptions, paid monthly or yearly, and give a painted page or three every day, more journals, voice journaling and private sync. The included pages are for that day; they do not carry over.
- Page packs of 10, 25 or 60 pages are a one-time purchase for painting earlier days. They are spent only after the day's included pages and stay on your account until spent.
- Prices are shown in US dollars at the moment you buy, in the app or on this site. Prices can change; a change to a subscription applies from your next renewal, and you will be told before it does.
- A yearly plan starts with 7 days free. You will not be charged if you cancel before the trial ends. If you do nothing, the plan starts and the first payment is taken when the trial ends.
Paying, renewing, cancelling and refunds
- Bought in a store. A plan or pack bought in the Apple App Store or on Google Play is billed by that store, under that store's terms. Cancel from your store subscription settings; refunds are asked for from the store, and the store decides.
- Bought on this site. A plan bought on mestoria.app is billed by our payment provider to the card you give. Cancel any time from your account page here. If a charge lands that you did not mean, write to support@mestoria.app within 14 days and we will put it right.
- Subscriptions renew on their own at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the plan until the period you paid for ends.
- One account, one journal: a plan bought in a store or on this site works in both, once you sign in with the same email.
The painter, and what it cannot promise
Pages are painted by a model, and a painting is never a measurement. A page can get a colour, a place or a face a little wrong, or leave out something you wrote. A page is a keepsake of your day, not advice; Mestoria is not a medical, mental health or legal service, and nothing painted or written in it should be treated as one. If you are in distress, please reach a person who can help.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Mestoria up, but it can be paused for maintenance, by an outage at the painter, or by something outside our hands. Styles can be added and retired, and features can change. If we ever stop the service, you will be told in advance with time to export your book.
Limits of what we owe each other
Mestoria is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we make no promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not liable for indirect losses, lost data you chose not to back up or export, or damages beyond what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits a right the law gives you that cannot be limited.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Massachusetts, USA. If something goes wrong, write to us first; most things can be put right in a message or two. A dispute that cannot be settled that way goes to the state or federal courts in Massachusetts, and you may always use a small claims court where you live.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change, the version date at the top changes. For a change that matters to you, the app or an email will tell you before it applies. Using Mestoria after that date means the new terms apply.
